Ozora graffiti festival

2022. Jun. 14. | Community

A huge painting of Yoda came to life in Ozora, which was not done at the actual festival, but as part of a jam by some members of the RCG Crew. Among others, Peru took part in the painting, and he tells us about the details.

Background story

The wall itself is the wall of a grain storage hall. We've had a family vacation home for almost 20 years, and since then I've been eyeing this place to see how nice it would be to visit one day. I was still quite young then, and to be honest, we didn't really have the time to take on such a large surface. Over the years, we managed to request more and bigger surfaces, gained experience in organizing graff jams (Ironmade jam 1,2 2015 and 2016) and in 2020 the then 10-person RoughColorinG as a member of the group, I thought I would surprise the others and try to claim this huge interface.

It worked!

The first painting was done in 2020, which Ogré and I painted together. We didn't have a very serious concept then, we just came up with the idea of putting a gorilla's head in the middle, and next to it the two drawings with common colors. This was followed in September 2020 by the approx. Our 56 x 5m superimposed fish concept, spiced up with completely random fish from common colors. This was apparently a huge step in terms of size, the concept itself was not particularly thought through.

In 2021, we added only one item, "The Good Spirit of the Forest" with Mejo and Ogré. This was our first real concept that we actually prepared.

Planning

At the end of each year, the group premieres a film made from the paintings of that year. In addition, we will talk about the old year and outline the new year. At the end of 2021, we discussed that we would hold this year's o.g.f. at Pentecost.

As the event approached and it became clear how many of us would participate, we held a group discussion where we started throwing in ideas and discussing the details.

I think this is the most important part of a concept. Communication, compromise skills and taking what we do seriously.

Of course, it is very important to have a good time while creating, but we must not forget that this is hard work, both physically and mentally, and we do not come together to relax and party.

Concept

The basic concept was already in December: Space.
Twe had a series of meetings and came up with a lot of ideas... let's have spaceships, planets, a little perspective as if the whole thing were viewed from a planet. Finally, Mejo said during a beer together: "but it would look good in the middle a big fucking yoda!” After everyone accepted this, the final direction was established. Besides myself, Asta, Mejo, Ogre, Saint and Save also took part in the painting. The end result was undeniably Star Wars themed.

Execution

Thanks to the Allcaps team, we were able to borrow their wagner machine, which we blasted down in less than an hour 140 m2 surface in black. Apart from that, there was nothing extra... a stack of cans and dispersions and plinth paint. We started painting early Thursday evening and finished around 10 Sunday evening. We usually started work in the early afternoon, as the sun was shining in the morning hours.

Conclusion

The "Ozora Graffiti Festival” (o.g.f.) can be said the same as the O.Z.O.R.A festival...
…Nem ott van. 😀
While the music festival is located in the settlement of Igar, the graffiti "festival" usually takes place in the village of Ozora. The quotation marks are not accidental, because we are not talking about a real festival simply about a jam based on a multi-day concept. Despite everything, it is my undisclosed desire that one day we will be able to present ourselves in the area of the festival.

HOEK's Mexican-style restaurant decor

What you can see from him at the moment is a decorative painting for a Mexican restaurant called Sombreros Taqueria. His clients wanted to evoke the visual aspects of this rich culture in addition to their food.
