Interview with Andi Polgár

2024. Jul. 13. | Interviews

Andi Polgár's vivid illustrations shake up the daily events. Her work is a favourite of respected people and artists alike.

What led you to become an artist?

From a very young age I was involved in some kind of art, my dad was also a clever man, he designed and built boats and designed utensils. So I had the genetics for it to some extent, but even as a child I loved to draw and create.

How long have you been making graphic designs?

Specifically digital drawings, illustrations started drawing and practicing in 2013, and I've been going non-stop ever since. 😀

What techniques and tools do you use to create your illustrations?

In my early years I did vector graphics, mostly with Adobe Illustrator, and then I discovered Procreate app, which since then has given me much more creative freedom and freedom to implement my ideas.

What inspires you to create?

The inspiration varies, many of my drawings are related to music and fashion, I often get inspired by well-known and respected artists, even if it is the visuals of one of their videos or one of their songs that can trigger my creative work. I also like to react to everyday things in the form of drawings, such as the extra high summer temperatures I have to deal with, or pictures from my last holiday.

I often take photos of things that look like a basic pattern, like bath foam or a coffee stain, and use them for 1-1 illustrations. The whole world around us can be very inspiring, even the simplest things, if you can just notice them. 😀

How would you describe your artistic style?

Given that I use a variety of digital solutions, I'd say it's quite eclectic, but I strive for balance and the right aesthetic in all my illustrations, I'm not really a chaotic, all-in-one artist type.

What messages do you convey with your works?

I try to use positive moods, vibrant colours that wake you up a little bit when you look at them, shake you up a little bit from the daily events. I like to create illustrations that make the eye want to linger a little. 😀

Could you describe in a little more detail the work that is closest to you, what exactly it represents?

It's hard to pick a favourite, each of my drawings has something to do with me, a memory, a thought, but I like the ones where I've managed to use visuals that have been shared or requested by people I know and find interesting, like Kelly Rowland, who has shared two of my pictures of her several times.

From the Lucifer series, LesleyAnn Brandt, with whom I had several conversations and ended up producing several products, bought my illustration inspired by her and took it with her to the set of the series.

Among my more recent work, I really like the image for the film Dune, which was initially a digital, textured drawing, but I saw potential in it, so I finally brought it to life after a post-animation.

Interestingly, I used a bath foam texture for the sand and other background elements, which I randomly photographed at home. 😀

Beyoncé own merch artwork

It's my habit to go to some concerts in my own designed polo, and last year was no different when I combined my artwork with a pair of jeans and wore it on tour. With these I'm also trying to translate some of my illustrations into offline form.

How do you think people relate to your graphics?

Fortunately, I get a lot of positive feedback and support that I am on the right track. I like to get feedback when I get back that they see an extra solution or presentation in 1 or 1 illustration, or even without a name they identify it as polgárandis. 😀

What are you currently working on and what are your future plans?

I have a variety of projects under my belt at the moment, it's an exciting time for me because I have projects that are highly structured, professional and focused, but also ones that give me complete creative freedom. You will be able to find out more about the specifics on my social media platform in the near future. 😀

Urban Art Association Te8

Urban art took on new meaning during the COVID-19 pandemic: while traditional cultural systems ground to a halt, street art continued to be present in urban spaces. It was in this context that the Urban Art Association Te8 was founded, not merely out of inspiration, but as a conscious response. The founders recognized that an isolated artistic presence was insufficient to achieve a genuine impact, so they created a structured yet free and original form of operation.

Interjú Wanda Hutira street art művésszel

Interview with street artist Wanda Hutira

Wanda Hutira is one of those artists for whom the city is not merely a backdrop, but an active partner in dialogue. Using murals, illustrations, and experimental visual techniques, she creates images that respond both to their surroundings and to the stories of the people who live in them. Her works are often based on small observations of everyday life and social and psychological issues, while her unique technical experimentation—from "impressionistic" distortions created with a paint roller to typographical references—creates a unique visual language. With more than a hundred murals behind her, Wanda Hutira now not only paints pictures on walls, but also initiates quiet conversations between the city and its people.

Interjú Refleks graffiti művésszel

Interview with graffiti artist Refleks

Refleks first picked up a spray can in 2009, and since then he has been consistently developing the style that many people now recognize immediately. In this interview, he talks about the thought process behind his name, his obsession with thin, precise lines, his open ambition for fame, and his view of the current state of the domestic and international graffiti subculture. Travels, iconic locations, strong opinions, and clear messages—Refleks doesn't explain, he reflects.
