New legal wall surface in Szeged!

2020. Dec. 19. | Community

legálfal szeged

Szeged has added another legally paintable wall surface, where graffiti artists can create without restrictions. If you also want to create, or if you are just interested in the demanding works that have been completed so far, then you should walk to the row of garages on Csáky József Street in the Rókus district.

In front of the works on display now, the walls of privately owned garages were defaced with inappropriate graffiti. The owners wanted to get rid of the obscene expressions on the walls, so when local artists approached the joint representative to ask if they would like to paint or decorate the walls, a successful agreement was reached. The initiative was based on a joint discussion, the artists were given free rein to create, the only thing the owners asked was that graffiti with an inappropriate theme (e.g. political) should not be created.

In connection with the initiative, we first contacted the relevant joint representative, who revealed during the conversation that he is very satisfied with the current works and that more such demanding works should be made with spray paint, not just doodles. In order to approach it from the "other side", we asked graffiti artist Mone, who was actively involved in making this agreement happen. The artist told us that the whole initiative would not have been possible without another local graffiti artist Pif, to whom they can thank for enriching Szeged with another legal wall. Since then, several graffiti works have been created here, in his opinion, this wall surface is every graffiti artist's dream, it corresponds to a good painting in every respect, it has a smooth surface and is not too high.

On the one hand, these types of initiatives can provide development opportunities for artists, on the other hand, they can act as an incentive for fewer works to be made illegally, and they can also contribute to the creation of a livable, attractive environment. At the same time, there are relatively few legal walls in Szeged. Mone, as an active graffiti painter in the city, also misses these free surfaces, as he sees how open people are to this, in his view, it would be worthwhile to take advantage of this interest and plan new graffiti exhibitions on legal walls. This would not only provide relaxation for the creators, but anyone would be able to admire the works and "the artistic streak can start in someone."

Colors Underground – The Iváncsa Underpass Gets a New Lease on Life

For a long time, the underpass at the Iváncsa train station was just another one of those familiar, functional, yet impersonal spaces. A place people pass through but don’t linger in. Today, however, it offers a completely different experience: colors, shapes, and stories accompany travelers along the way. The decoration is not only a visual renewal but also an imprint of a community-oriented vision—the identities of three towns converge here with László Varga’s unique perspective.

Adam Illes – Reflections

His work titled *Reflections*, installed on the wall of Stratford Junction, explores a theme that is both personal and universal: connection. Not an encounter in the superficial sense, but that rare and elusive moment when two people truly see one another.

When Paint Turns to Glass – Glass Angel

Street art is often about quick gestures and raw energy, but there are works that speak more of patience, precision, and a carefully constructed visual experience. CSM’s work titled “Glass Angel” is the final piece in a four-part mural series that not only posed a serious technical challenge but also holds personal significance for the artist. The transparency of the glass symbolizes fragility, the angel represents beauty and love, while the dark and light tones in the background symbolize the duality of the world.
