Nature and fantasy meet in the embrace of the Bakony forests – Gergely Ozsváth (Mentha)'s latest mural on the tennis court of Hotel Szarvaskút combines two separate worlds: the galactic Star Wars universe and the magical atmosphere of the Bakony. On one side, Darth Vader wields a lightsaber-shaped tennis racket, while on the other, an enchanting forest deer emerges from the mist. The artist designed the 90-square-meter work with complete creative freedom, using VR technology, filling the guest park with humor, cinematic visuals, and natural harmony—creating a balance between light and darkness, play and art.
Mentha tells us about his latest work
The walls of the tennis court have been given a new lease of life thanks to two unique graphics. On one side, a spectacular Star Wars-themed painting awaits guests—a little galactic atmosphere among the trees of the Bakony Hills. A Star Wars-themed mural had already been created earlier, featuring Master Yoda playing tennis—and now the time has come for the dark side to show itself! In the new mural, Darth Vader grabs a "racket" – more precisely, a laser sword-shaped tennis racket – and steps onto the court for a galactic duel.
With this work, I wanted to continue the previous story and bring a little humor, fantasy, and cinematic atmosphere to the tennis court of the Hotel Szarvaskút guest park. The two sides now bring together light and darkness, play and art in the Bakony environment. On the other side, there is a work that fits in with the location and nature, harmonizing perfectly with the atmosphere of the Bakony Hills and Zirc.
The mural depicts a deer stepping out of the forest, as if arriving from another world. The management of Hotel Szarvaskút gave the artist complete freedom in the creation of the work, resulting in a piece that straddles the line between fantasy and reality.
My goal was to create a fairy-tale atmosphere – one that captivates the viewer and transports them into the magic of a quiet, misty morning. Using shades of blue, green, and turquoise, I tried to evoke the special, peaceful atmosphere that the morning light of the Bakony Hills radiates.
The two paintings thus evoke both the world of fantasy and the tranquility of nature, offering a unique spectacle to all who visit the Hotel Szarvaskút Guest Park.
I created both walls entirely on my own in 12 days – the idea came from me as well. The commission came about because the previous mural featuring Master Yoda was so well received by the management team that they wanted a similar work with a special atmosphere for the guest park.
I was very happy to be given complete freedom, which allowed my creativity to truly flourish—both in the Star Wars-themed painting and in the fairy-tale painting inspired by the Bakony Hills. For me, this project was not just work, but a true creative experience.
To sketch out the design, I tried a completely new technique: I sketched the basics using VR glasses. I recently saw a video on TikTok about this method, and I liked the idea so much that I immediately invested in a device like this.
Since I paint a lot, I knew this would be a big help in my work—and I wasn't disappointed. With VR technology, I was able to sketch out the proportions much more quickly and easily, saving me a lot of time. Of course, you still have to pay attention to the details, but this new solution really simplifies and modernizes the process of painting walls.
With both sides, the wall surface is approximately 90 square meters, so this is a truly large-scale project. I applied the base coat with outdoor paint, using a roller and brush, then added further layers using a mixed technique – but I mainly used spray paint to achieve a more dynamic and detailed effect.
I am extremely grateful for all the positive feedback, especially because I have received messages of appreciation from abroad as well. This project has taken a lot of work and energy, but every minute has been worth it—mainly because I was given complete freedom by the client.
They knew that if they let creativity run free, something truly special would be created—and judging by the reactions, guests are thrilled with the finished murals.
