What is a satoshi?

The satoshi (SAT) the smallest unit of Bitcoin.

Just as the Hungarian forint has the fillér and the dollar has the cent as its smaller units, Bitcoin can also be divided into smaller units.

The satoshi is named after the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto received.

Total for a single bitcoin:

It consists of 100,000,000 satoshis.

This means that you don’t need to buy a whole bitcoin.

You can hold, save or spend anything from a few hundred to a few thousand satoshis.

The relationship between SAT and BTC

The relationship between Bitcoin and satoshi is always the same:

Bitcoin Satoshi
1 BTC 100 000 000 SAT
0,1 BTC 10 000 000 SAT
0,01 BTC 1 000 000 SAT
0,001 BTC 100 000 SAT
0,0001 BTC 10 000 SAT
0,00001 BTC 1 000 SAT

As a single bitcoin can be extremely valuable, amounts are increasingly being quoted in satoshis in everyday use.

This is particularly true of the Lightning Network payments.

Everyday examples

Using satoshis may seem unusual at first, but it actually makes it much easier to manage smaller amounts of Bitcoin.

A few examples:

Product Example

🥑 One avocado a few thousand SATs
🚲 A bike a few hundred thousand SAT
💻 A laptop a few million SAT

The exact value, of course, always depends on the current Bitcoin exchange rate.

How does the exchange rate work?

The calculator always uses the most up-to-date Bitcoin exchange rate available.

The system automatically supports multiple data sources:

The advantage of this is that:

  • ensures a faster response time;
  • reduces the number of external API calls;
  • It ensures stable operation even during periods of high visitor numbers.

How do you use it?

The calculator supports three different currencies:

  • Hungarian forint (HUF)
  • Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Satoshi (SAT)

Simply enter the amount in any of the fields.

The other two fields are updated automatically.

The calculator works both ways:

  • HUF → BTC → SAT
  • BTC → SAT → HUF
  • SAT → BTC → HUF

Large numbers are automatically displayed in groups of thousands, making them easier to read.
