Squirrels greet children with special educational needs on school walls

2024. Sep. 14. | Community

The painting aims to draw attention to the role of the institution in the muralpaint.hu artists. The mural is a woodland detail, as there are plenty of trees and squirrels in the surroundings, luckily in this part of the city.

Muralist Ákos Barnabás Marton talks about the initiative

The idea came from the fact that my wife works there. I've been there several times, it's not a centrally located building, I've been there relatively rarely. The school is quite an old building, by the way, it's been around for a long time. There are a lot of children there, but also a lot of adults, so it will serve a lot of people in all respects.

The painting itself is a forest scene with a simple interpretation. The squirrels were chosen as the theme after a joint consultation with the institution, as we wanted to paint friendly, friendly animals that are popular with the children, as the mural was primarily intended for the children and staff who study there.

The emphasis is more on raising awareness of the institution rather than on the style and subject matter. The institution has a very important and significant role, but it does not get the attention it deserves, so we thought that a mural would not only enhance the aesthetic appearance of the building, but also bring the students who study there closer to the people.

On the one hand, the kids love it, they look forward to watching it every day. At the same time, the squirrels have brought others closer to us. Many people have been distant about the school for children with special needs, but now we see that they are happy to stop in front of the building, look at the painting and talk in the space where it is visible. So the painting is also helping the school to integrate a little bit more into the neighbourhood, something we never would have imagined. - says the Director

Fortunately, Szetáv Ltd. and the Mondolo Association was also open to the initiative, so together we managed to realise this project as a charitable donation. In the past years we have painted quite a lot of large wall surfaces together with the above mentioned partners, so we were flexible and quick to implement this project, which was completed in 7 days.

Unfortunately, it is an old building, so the painting was carefully done before the deep foundations were laid to make it as durable as possible. For the roughly 70-80 sqm wall area, we used exterior wall paints and spray acrylic paints, which filled in the grainy wall surface nicely.

The painting is located at 4 Sólyom utca in Szeged, which is the wall of the school facing the street.

Colors Underground – The Iváncsa Underpass Gets a New Lease on Life

For a long time, the underpass at the Iváncsa train station was just another one of those familiar, functional, yet impersonal spaces. A place people pass through but don’t linger in. Today, however, it offers a completely different experience: colors, shapes, and stories accompany travelers along the way. The decoration is not only a visual renewal but also an imprint of a community-oriented vision—the identities of three towns converge here with László Varga’s unique perspective.

Adam Illes – Reflections

His work titled *Reflections*, installed on the wall of Stratford Junction, explores a theme that is both personal and universal: connection. Not an encounter in the superficial sense, but that rare and elusive moment when two people truly see one another.

When Paint Turns to Glass – Glass Angel

Street art is often about quick gestures and raw energy, but there are works that speak more of patience, precision, and a carefully constructed visual experience. CSM’s work titled “Glass Angel” is the final piece in a four-part mural series that not only posed a serious technical challenge but also holds personal significance for the artist. The transparency of the glass symbolizes fragility, the angel represents beauty and love, while the dark and light tones in the background symbolize the duality of the world.
